A musical excursion through the centuries with the Cappella Mariana and the Goeyvaerts String Trio – not just a memory, but a living presence

The concert of the Cappella Mariana and the Goeyvaerts String Trio far exceeded the usual listener experience. The sacred medieval compositions were written using archaic techniques that are extremely sophisticated, often pronouncedly abstract or, on the contrary, strictly linear and geometric. Their mission is a profession of faith. In these works, ordinary time loses its significance. It is as if the “here and there” ceased to exist. There is only “now”. It is extremely interesting how, in this respect, the music of the ancient masters distantly resembles some of the works of the 20th century musical avant-garde, which, albeit with a different philosophical approach, arrived at something similar. Perhaps this is why all the compositions seemed entirely homogeneous and coherent.
